I was recently looking at your website and you guys look like a great plumbing services company. I do have a question though about a problem I have. I live in a condo here in Kansas City and I think I have a leak in my kitchen sink. I swear I am turning it off all the way, but I can hear it dripping constantly. This has been going on for at least a week now. Do you think it is a serious problem that I should get fixed or will it be ok to let it go until I have a little more money? I do not have a ton of money to fix the problem right now. I am just trying to figure out if this is something I need to call a professional plumber for or if it will be ok if I wait a little longer? Thanks so much for your help!

Dear Leaky Faucet,

We completely understand. It is tough to figure out if something should be fixed when you know that little bit of money could be going towards something else. The problem with a leaky faucet though is that it could actually be spending your money without you even realizing it and could cause major problems in the near future.

First off, over the matter of the one week you have noticed this leak, you have probably wasted approximately one hundred gallons of water. This may seem like a lot for a little drip, but if it is dripping constantly and all day then the water starts to add up. This means that you are spending a good amount of money on your water or energy bills on something that you are not even using. If you let the leak go for too long then you will be spending much more money on your bills then it would ever cost for you to hire a plumber.

Second, if the leak goes for too long then it could cause some serious damage to your flooring and the structure of the condo. And if you live on the second floor, it could actually start staining the ceiling of your downstairs neighbor and possibly make the ceiling soft to the touch. Replacing flooring or a ceiling is incredibly expensive. You could spend thousands of dollars trying to fix these things. On top of all this, you will also probably end up with mold underneath your flooring that will need to be fixed.

As you can see, a plumber is nothing compared to the money you could be spending on your water bills or if you end up having to replace flooring or a ceiling. If you have any more questions or would like to schedule an appointment please feel free to call us at your earliest convenience. We hope we have helped you decide what to do with your leaky faucet and if you need assistance call your local residential plumber.
